The visit, organised by Enterprise Ireland Dubai, the regional arm of the Irish Department of Trade, is the first initiative of its kind showcasing leading Irish brands and is part of an ongoing process to assist Irish companies exploring commercial opportunities in the Middle East.
The two-day event (14-15 April, 2013), taking place at the JW Marriott Marquis, is designed to educate Irish retail companies on doing business in the region and familiarise them with some of the most prominent players ? both retailers and distributors ? such as the Al Tayer Group, Chaloub, Jashanmal, Qatar Luxury, Home Centre and Namshi.com. The format will include education and information sharing sessions, as well as meetings with some of the GCC?s biggest names in the retail industry.
21 Irish companies have travelled to Dubai for the event including the natural skincare company Human+Kind and bedding manufacturer Pownal and Hampson; both of which are already active suppliers in the UAE. The delegation also includes brands covering organic skincare, innovative soft furnishings, contemporary fashion and bespoke jewellery.
Barbara Walsh, Trade Development Executive, Enterprise Ireland said: ;?Enterprise Ireland is fundamental in creating links between Irish businesses and overseas partners to build mutually profitable international commerce relationships ? a role in which the burgeoning retail sector is playing an increasingly important part. Events such as this present an important platform for clients looking to expand their business on an international scale.??
Mr. Brian McGee, Market Development Manager of the Crafts Council of Ireland commented, ?In recent times people all over the world are seeking to buy and gift objects that have more substance behind them. The story behind the making becoming more important; the choice of materials and technique, where something was made and who made it, all combine to add value, exclusivity and a sense of luxury. The Retail Ireland event is a fantastic opportunity to introduce contemporary and creative Irish companies and showcase their products to a wider audience.??
Enterprise Ireland Dubai and H.E. Ciaran Madden also hosted an evening networking reception last night with the objective of cementing links between Irish retailers and influential buyers for long-term, successful collaboration.
