1. Relationships

The suggested relationship section is quite powerful. The list is a dynamic, real-time list. ?It is a ?suggested? list of members you should pay close attention to in your community. The list is based on how you have interacted and engaged with members on Twitter. It analyzes your feed and depending on your interactions, it prioritizes your members and their tweets into the following categories:

  • Consider to reply: These recommendations highlights missed, unreplied tweets from your valuable members. You can tweet directly from the Commun.it platform making the engagement seamless to your community.

  • Consider to un-follow: This is a list people that don?t follow you and has ?little influence based ?by your criteria and interactions.
  • New followers:?This is a list of new connections to note.
  • New unfollowers:?This is a list of those who have decided disengage by unfollowing.

The above suggestions makes it really easy to keep on top of your community and manage those relationships in Twitter. The prioritized lists increases the visibility of ?what is going on? in your Twitter community. For each member suggestion made by Commun.it, Commun.it provides that member?s twitter interaction, so that you can drill down and see their most recent tweets, the number of engagements you have had with them and the number of followers. ?You have the option of following through with the Commun.it recommendations or manually over-riding the recommendations and prioritizing your members using your own business intelligence.

3. Groups

Commun.it lists your Twitter lists in this section. However, you can add additional private Commun.it lists or groups in this section. Lists and groups is a powerful tool to both segment your community and to facilitate easy communication with the different connections in your community. It is a great way to keep the conversations going with your different groups.

In this section, Communit also highlights the top tweets for each group. Another method of ensuring you are on top of those important conversations and encouraging you to engage where it makes sense.

4. Monitor Engagement

This section lists members who mentions your websites and your hashtags making it easier for you to engage with members who are supporting and sharing your content and targeted tweets.?

5. Discover New Leads

This section lists members who used the key words that you want to track in your community. In my example below [figure 5], I added the key words ? poor service?. As you can see in figure 5, Commun.it lists all members who recently mentioned ?poor service? in their tweets. Now that is value, right? With this list, you can drill down for additional context and make a decision on whether to engage or not. This is a good first step in generating leads for your brand or community.

Discover New Leads Using Commun.it ~ social media pearls

figure 5. The Discover New Leads sections lists members in the twitter community who mentions the key words listed as a criteria to track. In this example the key words are ?poor service?.

In summary, Communit is a really good tool to help you slice and dice your twitter community to make it more manageable and staying on top of your relationships. The only thing Commun.it does not provide is the discipline to execute. That has to come from you! The best way to take advantage of the tool, is to schedule time in the day to review and try to make it a daily habit. I hope this gives an overview on how to manage your Twitter relationships using Commun.it.?Now it is your turn. Do you use a relationship management tool? What are your tips?

?

Cheers!

Tesla's 90 second battery swaps will power EVs faster than gas pumps fill tanks (video)

Tesla demonstrates fast battery swaps full charge in less time than a fillup

Tesla founder Elon Musk has mentioned battery swap service stations as an even faster alternative to charging for EV drivers, and tonight the company showed just how efficiently it can be done. In a demonstration at its design studio, it beat what it claims is the fastest gas pump in LA by exchanging a drained car battery pack for a fresh fully charged one in just 90 seconds. When the $500,000 stations start rolling out, owners will stay in the car the whole time then either swap the battery back for their original on a return trip, or get a bill for the difference based on how new their battery is. According to Reuters, the exchange is expected to cost owners between $60 - $80 each time or about the cost of 15 gallons of gas

Of course, failed outfit Better Place proposed a similar service before it shut down, but Tesla is betting that it can make it work this time. The first service stations are coming to busy corridors, with some planned for I5 in California. Still need more proof? Elon Musk tweeted that video of the event will be available in "about an hour," so check back then.

Update: We're still waiting on the official video, but reader Weapon sent in a link to video shot by an event attendee, which can be viewed after the break. Take a peek and see a pair Tesla's Model S sedans get quick battery service, one after the other in less time than a fuel pump can deliver one tank of gas.

HP Pavilion Chromebook 14

Google's Chromebook may not get much respect in some tech circles, but HP offers a vote of confidence with a Chrome-based laptop of its own, the HP Pavilion Chromebook 14. Blending the design aesthetics of a budget Pavilion laptop with the free web-centric Chrome OS, the 14-inch Pavilion Chromebook is the closest thing we've seen to a standard laptop coming out under the Google flag.

Design
Were it not for the candy-colored Google Chrome logo on the lid of the laptop, the HP Pavilion Chromebook would look like a 14-inch version of the HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15z-b000, HP's inexpensive, AMD-powered ultrabook alternative. The chassis uses the same plastic construction, with a glossy "sparkling black" finish. The entire laptop is also fairly lightweight, tipping the scales at just 3.73 pounds.

The chiclet keyboard feels like an HP keyboard, with comfortable spacing but a slightly insubstantial feel when typing. Unlike other HP laptops, the Pavilion Chromebook features a layout that has been tweaked specifically for use with Google's Chrome OS. Instead of a Windows key, there's a search key that opens up a fresh Google search screen. The F1-F12 buttons have also picked up a few Chrome-specific functions (Across from left to right: Escape, Back, Forward, Reload, Full Screen, Next Window, Brightness Down/Up, Volume Mute/Down/Up, Power), while a row of keys along the right-hand edge of the keyboard add a few familiar functions not offered on the smaller Chromebooks, like a Delete key, along with Home, Pg Up, Pg Dn, and End keys.

The touchpad is also a bit closer to the Windows-norm than the buttonless clickpads seen on the Samsung Chromebook Series 3 (XE303C12) or the Acer C7 Chromebook (C710-2055). Instead, you'll get the more familiar right and left buttons, along with a textured touchpad that supports Chrome's one- and two-finger gestures, like tapping with a single finger for a standard mouse click, and tapping with two for right-click functions, and two-finger scrolling.

The Pavilion Chromebook is the largest Chromebook yet, with a 14-inch display that dwarfs the 11-inch displays seen on the Acer C7 and the Samsung Series 3. The Google Chromebook Pixel (64GB, LTE) comes closer in size (12.85 inches) but with its Retina-like resolution, touch capability, and unique 3:2 aspect ratio, the Pixel's display isn't really comparable to any of the inexpensive Chromebooks. Instead, the Pavilion Chromebook, with its 14-inch screen and 1,366-by-768 resolution display, is again most similar to the HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15z-b000, which was actually a bit bigger at 15.6 inches.

With that 14-inch display and slim dimensions?0.83 by 13.7 by 9.4 inches (HWD)?the Pavilion Chromebook is the first to really take the Chromebook from netbook-like designs into a more laptop-like form factor. In some ways this is an excellent move, as the larger dimensions make for more comfortable typing and the larger display makes multitasking easier. But in other ways, it detracts from the Chromebook experience, by reshaping expectations?instead of a pleasantly surprising netbook experience, it's a laptop experience without full laptop capability.

Features
What sets Chromebooks apart from any other laptop is Chrome OS, Google's web-centric operating system. It's a different approach to the operating system, focusing almost exclusively on the web browser and shifting many of the familiar tools of a PC into the browser by way of browser extensions, cloud services, and apps. Most of your basic functions are still there, with a basic file manager, Google Drive (Google's Office analog), Google Media Player for video and music playback, and Gmail, all with an offline option for those times you're away from Wi-Fi.

Google's growing stable of apps and browser extensions do the work of locally installed software, but with a cloud-based twist?most (but not all) apps rely on online data, or shift storage or processing demands elsewhere. Whether it's photo editing (Pixlr), accounting (Wave Accounting), CRM and sales tracking (base), and a wide array of games and entertainment options, Google's thousands of apps and extensions should fill most of the needs filled by software in other circumstances. It may require shifting your perceptions and necessitates embracing the always online mentality, but there's not a lot you can do with a laptop that you can't also do (to some degree) using Chrome OS.

The Pavilion Chromebook 14 is equipped with three USB 2.0 ports, a headset jack, a wired LAN connection, HDMI output, and a full-size, full-depth SD card slot?by contrast, the SD slot on the Samsung Series 3 Chromebook irritatingly left half the card sticking out when in use. Internally, the 14-inch Chromebook boasts 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, along with an HP TrueVision webcam and integrated microphone.

As with the Samsung Series 3, the Pavilion Chromebook 14 offers little in the way of local storage?a mere 16GB?but the lack of onboard storage is meant to encourage storing data to the cloud. To ease this transition, Google gives new Chromebook owners a free 100GB of added capacity in Google Drive for storing all of your documents, media, and files. HP also covers the Pavilion Chromebook 14 with a one-year warranty, as well as one year of hardware support and a year software support (with product registration, otherwise 30-days). Customer reviews on sites like Amazon, however, suggest that HP's normally excellent tech support may not be trained to deal with Chrome OS, so troubleshooting may be more problematic.

Performance
The HP Pavilion Chromebook 14 is outfitted with a 1.1GHz Intel Celeron 847 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM, which can be upgraded to 4GB. This is the same processor found in the Acer C7 Chromebook (C710-2847), and the performance is similar, though not identical. According to BrowserMark test results, the Pavilion Chromebook 14 is slightly faster than the Samsung Series 3, but falls a bit behind the Acer C7. The newer Acer C710-2055, on the other hand, which also uses an Intel Celeron 847 but with 4GB of RAM, continues to reign as the fastest of the inexpensive Chromebooks.

HP has also equipped the Pavilion Chromebook 14 with a removable 37Wh, 4-Cell lithium-ion battery. This opens up the possibility of purchasing a second battery, which is almost a necessity?the battery lasted only 3 hours 36 minutes in our streaming video rundown test. While this is about half an hour longer than the life of the first Acer C7 (3:02) but falls short of the Samsung Series 3 (5:25) and the longer-lasting Acer C710-2055 (4:12).

While the $329 HP Pavilion Chromebook 14 isn't the cheapest of the inexpensive Chrome devices, it's still a heck of a lot less than most budget laptops, and is perhaps the easiest transition from Windows to Chrome. The full-size keyboard and 14-inch display will be welcomed by anyone who thinks the 11- and 12-inch Chromebooks a tiny and cramped, and the whole package is slim and light enough to pick up and take on the go. Unfortunately, the larger design doesn't translate into longer battery life. While the longer lasting Acer C7 Chromebook (C710-2055) is our Editors' Choice for inexpensive Chromebooks, the HP Pavilion Chromebook 14 is still a solid entry into the unique category, and a solid deal for the always online set.

Michelle Obama lays roses at bloodiest site along Berlin Wall

By Sarah Marsh and Alexandra Hudson

BERLIN (Reuters) - Michelle Obama and her daughters threaded roses through the narrow slots of a Berlin Wall memorial on Wednesday, honoring those who died trying to cross the Cold War barrier at a site which holds special poignancy in the once divided city.

Accompanied by Angela Merkel's husband Joachim Sauer, who like the German leader hails from the former East Germany, President Barack Obama's family toured the Bernauer Strasse memorial where desperate residents of East Berlin once tried to jump from their windows into the western half of the city.

At Bernauer Strasse, the wall, erected in 1961 by East Germany's communist rulers to prevent citizens from fleeing to the West, cut right in front of the apartment blocks.

Two years after the wall went up, U.S. President John F. Kennedy visited the west of the city and delivered his famous "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech in which he pledged not to abandon the citizens of Berlin. President Obama's visit has been timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of that speech.

"I bring with me the enduring friendship of the American people, as well as my wife Michelle and Malia and Sasha," Obama told a wildly-cheering crowd during an address next to the Brandenburg Gate, where the wall once stood.

"You may notice they are not here. The last thing they want to do is listen to another speech from me, so they are out experiencing the beauty and the history of Berlin, and this history speaks to us today."

Bernauer Strasse was the scene of some of the first deaths as people tried to flee.

Yet the street also recalls stories of hope - when residents managed to dig a tunnel to reach the west and where the first segments of the wall were knocked down in 1989.

In scorching sunshine, Michelle, her daughters and the president's sister Auma mounted a viewing platform from where they could look down onto a stretch of the actual wall and the so-called death strip.

There, fugitives faced alarm-wired fences, steel spikes, wreaths of barbed wire, dog patrols, a deep ditch and finally a 12-foot high wall.

At least 136 people died at the wall between 1961 and 1989, most of them in ill-fated attempts to cross it.

Earlier on Wednesday Michelle and her daughters paid their respects at Berlin's Holocaust memorial, which commemorates the millions of Jews who perished under Nazi German rule before and during World War Two.

Athletes pursue class action lawsuit against NCAA

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) ? Lawyers for former student athletes are seeking Thursday to turn their lawsuit against the NCAA over compensation into a class action representing thousands of collegiate competitors.

A federal judge is scheduled to hear arguments in Oakland on Thursday afternoon. If the lawsuit is turned into class action and the athletes prevail, the NCAA could face billions of dollars in liability.

The lawsuit was initially filed by University of California, Los Angeles basketball player Ed O'Bannon and several other former college athletes in 2009 who feel the NCAA is unfairly profiting from their likenesses and images in marketing deals with video games and others. Several similar lawsuits have also been filed and all have been consolidated into one case in front of U.S. District Court Judge Claudia Wilken in Oakland.

The judge has previously refused NCAA demands to toss out the lawsuit.

The NCAA argues that many of the athletes receive scholarships in exchange for playing sports and to pay student athletes would ruin amateur athletics.

The judge isn't expected to rule Thursday.

The lawsuit seeks a share of the money the NCAA earns from licensing former players' images in commercials, DVDs, video games and elsewhere.

The debate over compensating college players is almost as old as the NCAA, founded in 1906. Amateurs have been expected to compete for free and the love of sport ? or at least the cost of a scholarship and the pursuit of an education.

But the NCAA's revenues have skyrocketed in recent years ? it recently signed a $10.8 billion, 14-year television deal for basketball ? and so have the demands of athletes to share in the money.

For its part, the NCAA is steadfast in its position that student-athletes are prohibited from receiving payment for participating in sports. It also says it has done nothing wrong in marketing itself for the benefit of its member schools and will continue to vigorously contest the lawsuits.
